CMSAF James C. Binnicker (right) was named Retired Military Person of the Year, during the Destin Area Chamber of Commerce’s Nov. 12 Leaders In Business Lunch. The award was created by the Chamber’s Military Affairs Council (MAC) in 2008 to honor a veteran active in the Destin area. It was presented by its 2009 winner and the current MAC chairman, Kim Wintner (left), Alliance Association Management Co. Inc.
Binnicker was the ninth chief master sergeant appointed to the highest noncommissioned officer position in the Air Force. In the role, he served as an adviser to the Secretary of the Air Force Edward C. Aldridge Jr. and Chief of Staff of the Air Force Gen. Larry D. Welch. The military decorations and awards he received during his 33-year military career include the Distinguished Service Medal; Legion of Merit; Bronze Star Medal; Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters; Joint Service Commendation Medal; Air Force Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster; Vietnam Service Medal with three service stars; Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm; and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Currently, Binnicker serves as the president and CEO of the Air Force Enlisted Village, Inc., a role he assumed in March 2000, and he oversees the operations of Teresa Village, Bob Hope Village, and Hawthorne House.
